Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The ex-president was found guilty of orchestrating a armed takeover in September and sentenced more than over two decades in prison, but he was staying under home detention pending court reviews.

At the time, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the decades-long sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also barred from seeking elected position until the year 2060 - a decade minus two years after the end of his sentence.

The ex-leader called the trial a targeted investigation" and said it was designed to prevent him participating in the 2026 presidential election.
