The second-hand marketplace Members Express Anger About Size Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its sizing categories for women's and children's garments but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Response
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present a different size category versus the original listing because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to examine their items and update the measurements by hand if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Before the change, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
A fashion influencer, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
A different member, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.
Necessary Adjustments
Another shopper, from Derby, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item".
"This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion when a surprising modification to the app has proved unpopular: last year, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
